What can I say? It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

As a child of the 80s, I couldn’t resist making the title for this article one that pays tribute and spins off of the incomparable Guns ‘n Roses era. Their album, Appetite for Destruction, was released in July of 1987 and, with about 30 million copies sold worldwide, went on to be one of the best-selling records ever made..

While I was a Whitesnake fan—thereby, late to the GnR party—I had enough hair and brains back then to realize these guys had something going on that deserved my attention and respect:

Guts.

They blasted out their own form of expression without apology, their appetite for attitude resonating with an otherwise repressed, suppressed generation of misfits and miscreants.

As Gen Xers, we whiled away the hours watching MTV and leafing through cassettes and compact discs at places like Tower Records, Wee Three Records and Sam Goody. We either listened to pop rock, hair metal, prog rock, or death metal, but rarely did one cross genres.

Until GnR.

Somehow, they gave us permission to listen by blurring the lines and taking chances with their music.

Like them, I think life is about taking chances and seeing what comes of it. Back then, I never would have imagined I’d have gone on to pursue a career in real estate. But here I am.

I took risks and initiative. I found my guts. I chose a leading brand that has received widespread critical acclaim. Like GnR, KW is a band of movers and shakers who are turning the entire real estate industry on its side.

Now I recognize that it is, perhaps, a bit surprising for a REALTOR® to say she takes inspiration from Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff, and Steven. Even if you don’t like them, I hope you will embrace my point: Which is that I’m willing to put guts, initiative, and creative risk-taking to work on your behalf.
